Is grad school on the back of your mind but you have no idea how to approach it? Although the process can be daunting, it is not as overwhelming as you think! HOW TO… WORK FROM YOUR CHILDHOOD HOME THIS SUMMER
Although some aspects of our “normal lives” are opening back up, many of us are still located in our homes for Summer 2020:COVID-19 Edition. For me, that means I am back in my childhood home (AKA, my childhood bedroom where I thought I was talented enough for art school).
I wasn’t and still… am not.
I was expecting this summer to be commuting into the city, doing an internship, and spending the majority of my week days sitting in traffic and working in an office environment. Instead, I’m signing on from my bedroom, the kitchen, our recliner by the window, and in any other corner of our house I can be productive in.
BOOK CLUB IN REVIEW: JUNE
After being quarantined in March, I hadn’t participated in a group facilitated discussion outside of my family dinners in months. Being a part of the intimate, and thought-provoking discussion we had in Back Pocket’s first book club this month- I remembered what I had been missing.
I felt so nervous about participating in an all online discussion. Would I get to share my thoughts? Would I get talked over? Would it be hard to hear from everyone?
HOW TO FACILITATE POSITIVE GROUP DISCUSSIONS
When I first started facilitating group discussions, I wasn’t very good at it. At all.
Back in 2013, I started an organization called MOVE, which is a program for teenage girls focusing on self-esteem, mental health, body image, and more. Throughout my eight years running the program, I have led many workshops and directed half a dozen summer sessions. The part that was initially the most challenging and left me feeling the most insecure was leading small groups. I struggled with awkward silences, overtalkers, and feeling confident in my role as a leader.

WHY I STARTED A PODCAST FROM HOME
I was never an avid listener when it came to podcasts. Maybe I never found one that was interesting enough, or relatable enough. It wasn't until recently when COVID-19 canceled all my summer work plans that I found myself staring at my childhood bedroom ceiling, wondering what I was supposed to do with all of my time this summer. Then it hit me, I wanted to start my own podcast. I wanted to publish my thoughts and my opinions on questions from my friends that go unasked. I started a series called The Rant by Pia Saurbier, and I have never been more excited about a project.
PINKWASHING ISN’T PRIDE
To say that Pride Month feels different this year would be a massive understatement.
But while banks and other corporations aren’t parading floats through the streets of major American cities, they’re still sporting rainbow-striped Twitter avatars, selling limited-edition technicolor merchandise, and shouting #loveislove.
10 TIPS AND TRICKS TO MAKE YOUR PERSONAL WEBSITE STAND OUT BY SAM LURIE
Personal websites are a great way to display yourself to the world and provide an awesome way for employers to see your skills firsthand in ways that a resumé and cover letter simply can’t convey. WHY COCONUT WHISK CHOSE IFUNDWOMEN BY BELLA
When I decided that I wanted to do crowdfunding, my first thought was Kickstarter. Many of my peers have used them, so I thought well, I guess this is the route for us too. However, months went by and I still hadn’t made much progress with the project. I think it was a lack of guidance and knowledge that held me back..
